Your ChatGPT history,
remembered everywhere
Years of conversations are sitting in ChatGPT — decisions, research, ideas — and no other AI can see them. Export once, upload to Engram, and every tool you use can search all of it.
Three steps. The import takes minutes — OpenAI's email is the wait.
Export your history from ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Data Controls → Export data and confirm. OpenAI emails you the download link — sometimes in minutes, sometimes a day or two (it's on their side, not ours; bigger accounts take longer). Create your free Engram account now so you're ready the moment it lands. When it arrives, unzip the archive and find conversations.json. That one file is your entire ChatGPT history.
The download link expires 24 hours after it arrives, so grab the file when the email lands. While you wait, your account isn't empty — the dashboard walks you through building an AI profile or saving your current project, so Engram is already useful before the import. Export is available on Free, Plus, Pro, and eligible Edu plans (not Business/Enterprise workspaces).
Upload it to Engram
Create a free account, open your dashboard, and drop conversations.json into the Import your history section. It parses in your browser and imports with a live progress bar — no terminal required.
Prefer the command line?
npx @getengram/cli import conversations.json --dry-run # preview
npx @getengram/cli import conversations.json # importSearch it from every AI you use
Every conversation is stored verbatim, tagged chatgpt-import, and embedded for semantic search. Connect Engram to ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP client, then just ask: “search my memory for that Postgres migration plan we discussed” — and it finds the original conversation, word for word.
What happens to your history
Stored verbatim
Every message is kept character-for-character — no summaries, no extracted “facts,” no lossy compression. The conversation is the knowledge base.
Searchable by meaning
Conversations are chunked and embedded for semantic search, so “that auth bug from last spring” finds the right thread even if you never used those words.
Private to you
Your data is isolated per organization and never used to train models — ours or anyone else's. See the security docs.
Stop leaving your memory behind
Free tier included. Sign up now, request your ChatGPT export, and import the moment it lands — every word searchable, forever.
