Engram for Students: Pro Memory for $3 a Month
Everything in Engram Pro — 1,000,000 messages of permanent memory, in every AI tool you use — for $3 a month, if you can verify a university email address. What's included, how the one-time verification works, and the honest caveat: we check that you control a university mailbox, not that you're enrolled this semester.
Engram has a Student plan now. It is the Pro plan — the same memory, the same tools, the same export — at $3 a month instead of $9, for anyone who can verify a university email address.
This post covers what you get, how the verification works, and the one place where we chose reach over rigor, so you can decide whether it's for you.
The 20-second version
- What you get: everything in Pro. 1,000,000 messages of permanent memory, searchable by meaning, available in every AI tool you connect.
- What it costs: $3 a month, billed monthly.
- The one requirement: a university email address you can receive mail at. We send one link; you click it; the price unlocks for twelve months.
Why students, specifically
A semester is a long conversation. The lecture you half-followed in week two becomes the problem set in week five and the exam in week fourteen. A thesis is six months of asking slightly different versions of the same question. A group project is four people and three different chat tools.
And that conversation is scattered. ChatGPT on your phone in the morning, Claude at night, Cursor for the CS homework. Every one of them forgets between chats, and nothing crosses between tools. So you explain your research question again. And again. By the fifth time you're abbreviating, and the answers get worse because the context did.
Engram fixes that specific thing. It stores the actual conversations — verbatim, not a summary — searchable by meaning, and hands them to whichever tool you're in. Ask Claude in the evening what ChatGPT helped you work out that morning, and it can see it. The same memory shows up in every tool that speaks MCP, so the question you answered in September is still there in May.
What $3 buys
Exactly what $9 buys. The Student plan is Pro:
- 1,000,000 messages of permanent memory — nothing expires
- Unlimited conversations
- Semantic search over everything you've saved
- MCP and the REST API, so it works in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and anything else that can call a tool
- Conversation export
One honest note before you reach for a card: the Free plan is 10,000 messages, also permanent, and that is plenty to start. Many students will never need to pay. Start on Free. The dashboard shows how full your memory is, and if a year of coursework fills it, the Student plan is the step up. The pricing page has the full comparison.
How verification works
- Sign up free. Any email address works for the account itself.
- Open the Dashboard and find the Student section.
- Enter your university address.
- We email that address a one-time link. Click it.
- Upgrade to Student at $3/mo appears in the dashboard.
Verification lasts twelve months. When it lapses you get one email asking you to re-verify, and the process is the same as the first time.
We recognise addresses structurally first — .edu, .ac.uk, .edu.au, and the equivalent patterns in other countries — and then against a list of known academic domains that don't follow those patterns. If your university's domain isn't recognised, email hello@getengram.app with the domain and a human adds it.
The honest part
This checks that you control a university mailbox. It does not check that you're enrolled this semester. An alumnus whose university kept their address alive will get the student price, and we know it.
We looked at the alternatives — enrollment-verification services, uploading a student ID — and decided against them. They add a step that real students bounce off, to catch a leak that costs almost nothing at $3. Reach matters more than leakage here.
The yearly re-verification is the lever that keeps it honest. Universities do eventually shut old mailboxes off, and when yours goes, so does the price — no audit, no awkward email from us, just a link that no longer arrives.
Your memory is yours
Student pricing doesn't change the rules about your data, but they're worth repeating, because a memory you can't control isn't yours:
- Nothing is saved unless you or your AI saves it.
- Delete a single message, a whole conversation, or everything.
- Keep whole projects out of memory entirely.
- Export all of it, any time.
The details — including how to say “don't save this” mid-conversation — are in You Decide What Engram Remembers.
